Welcome to the Politics of Physical Appearance in the Popular Culture

AAS 401-002: The Politics of Physical Appearances in Popular Culture

Greetings, AAS 401-002 Class Community.

This course is designed to be a research course for African American and Africana Studies that explores theories associated with the politics of physical appearances in American culture.  This course will explore the norms and politics associated with beauty, particularly the female body, has been expressed as an extension of beauty politics that emerge in philosophy, cultural studies, history, and visual culture.

As we discussed in class, this course will challenge students to learn in physical and digital environments. We are going to be using theories associated with the politics of physical appearances pertaining to race in addition to blogs, videos, streamed lectures, archives, open access institutional resources and websites. Consider this website www.ukaas200.blogspot.com as a compliment website.

If you would like to contact me, I can be reached using the information on the syllabus or via email damaris.hill@uky.edu.  I am excited to learn with you!

Sincerely,
